How To Change Colours Of Elements In Canva Using Colour Swatches In The Tool Bar

A simple yet powerful way to personalise any design is by customising the colours of its elements. By moving away from the default colours, you can instantly make the design feel more unique and aligned with your style or brand.

In Canva, many graphic elements give you the option to change colours the way I demonstrate here. As long as there are colour swatches in the top tool bar you're good to go.

If there aren't any swatches, changing colours isn't as straightforward. This will be covered in a different tutorial.

This is how we use the swatches >>>

In our 'Pineapples' lesson Canva template, the colours of the pineapple graphic element and the lips graphic element are as we see them here on the left.

For variety, I changed the blue leaves to green, and the lips to a light pink like we see in the flowers, to create the pineapple on the right. ⬇️ 

When you select the element on your page, we're looking for coloured circles or 'swatches' in the top tool bar. ⬇️ 

When you click on the blue coloured swatch in the tool bar it opens the swatch panel, and you can choose a different colour! ⬇️ 

You can change the colour of the mouth exactly the same way. Select the element, then click on the colour swatch you want to change in the top tool bar!⬇️ 

This is a great tip to know - it's quick and easy but it makes all the difference when you're designing!
